Leave a Comment, Kill a Tree
Maybe that's not the right motivation, killing trees, but it's time to leave a comment if you haven't yet.
Though I'm not sure she'll want the details that often appear here, or my silly brotherly jokes, Amacker will certainly want to know that all of you missed her and checked on her progress frequently. There's even talk of printing the blog and all the comments in bound book form. (Thus the "kill a tree" title.)
Anyway, if you post anonymously, be sure to put your name somewhere in what you write, but by all means POST! It's easy to do. Just click on the link below each little blog that says "# Comments." It'll guide you through the rest.

The bound book must be accompanied by the soundtrack CD! Let's all sing along with James Taylor now, You've Got a Friend...
Tigger and I are so glad to have you back among the awake and concious. We both send our love to you hon and will come visit as soon as you are ready for some company. Love from us and all of the Hair of The Dog peeps.
I have known Amacker for at least 15 years - maybe it has been many more years than that. She is one of my most favorite people I have ever met.
Sometime she has been just a few minutes late arriving for her show on KFJC (after mine) and I have waited. I always knew she was going to make it, riding up on her MC in the "nick of time!"
She will make it this time - it may be a while, but I am sure of it...
Hi there!
Read about your sisters accident in Neil Gaiman's blogg and although I haven't the slightest clue who you are (somehow I never felt the need to look it up) I check in every day to see if there are any news. From the first post you captured my heart and there was no ignoring that you were all real people, and once I fully realized that, how could I possibly stop reading? Stop caring? So thank you for letting us, friends and strangers, share this with you. The things that happen to "other" people.
Emelie Lang, Gothenburg, Sweden.
Ms Squirrel, Mud Luscious and Davros wish you an easy, quick recovery. We live close and will bring you soup whenever you want.
All the best

Hello Amacker, I too am merely a fried of a friend. I once upon a time had a beautiful bike that I loved heart and soul (but my husband got quite, quite ill and I sold it to pay some doctor bills, so ultimately my beautiful teal blue bike served me better than I could serve her...) and so feel at least some small connection here. Your family and you are truly inspiring. You are cared about by many more people than perhaps you'll ever be able to know, but "a friend is a friend near or far". love, grace

We dont Love U; We SLUV U!
That means Super Love U!

A tree once hit me on the back of my head with a falling branch while I was looking the other way. Sneaky, cowardly trees!! I vowed revenge: kill them all I say!
Oh yeah: we love ya Amacker!! Glad you're recovering nicely; fighting staph and staff (well, paramedics at least), building blood and bone to be with us soon (well, sooner or later – I think you have a operation or two left…).
Well anyways - we all miss’ya, and wish’ya were better so we can come visit and bring ya ponies or motorcycles or Balinese fruitbats or whatever Stanford Hospital will allow…motorcycle-riding Balinese Ponies from the giftshop?-I don’t know…
Hey Amacker
It's Sarah (and Luna, Paddy's little sister). Hello, big kiss and hugs where it doesn't hurt (licks from Luna too). I snook into the ICU to see you one time a couple of weeks ago. It was your body lying there, but without your spirit filling the room and that wacky bird on your shoulder,it was strange. Reading this web page, you have to know, that people feel that the world is far sweeter with you in it. You touch people's lives and hearts beyond measure.
I dont know you at all, but have been reading about your progress since Neil Gaiman posted the link on his page. I am so glad that you are doing well and my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. You all seem like such good people!

ME AND BB AARE SITTING HERE HAVING COFFEE LOOKING OUT AT THE VOLCANO, TODAY IS HARI GALUNGAN, THE PEAK OF THE BALINESE NEW YEAR, THERES GONGS AND DRUMS ALL THROUGH THE VILLAGES, PROCESSIONS ON THE STREETS, THE SUN BROKE OUT THIS MORNING, ITS WARM AND BEAUTIFUL AND SO ARE YOU!! Hi Sweetpea! (Amacker, not Richard but I'll reserve the opportunity to call him that too). Marianne here.
To say we're all totally over the moon at this long awaited news is such a huge understatement. Many group happy tears are being shed. I suspect you'll need a door-person before long. Tom and Digby (and absolutely countless other Adobites) are wishing you the very best and my mother and Jack are all keeping close tabs on you too. Haven't heard from Tym yet but I suspect you will soon.
I know it'll probably be a while before you read this and that I'll probably see you before then but know that we love you very, very much. Let me know when I can sneak in warm cookies. xxoo
only cuz your brother asked...
...i saw you dancing once
You are loved, not only by your outstanding brother, but by people you may never meet, like me.
Your strength is wonderful.
bSIRR and aMAMM send LOTS of LOVE. We've followed the blog very closely (thank you Richard). Sometimes checking it several times a day to make sure Amacker was on the mend. Can't wait to hear the tales from inside her 'haid :)
Happy Happy Joy Joy; it is such wonderful news to hear that you are awake! Sleeping Beauty has awoken from her deep sleep and the roses are blooming around her! I hope you don't remember any of the pain and take the strength and love from your friends around the world to help you as you recover.
Dear Amacker, we haven't seen you in awhile but we live just a few miles apart... whenever you are home and feel up to a quick visit, we'd love to come give you some big hugs and a dinner a la Lisa, special delivery. We've been thinking of you daily these past weeks and send more love your way...
Always, Lisa, Eric, Sean & Brett Weitzmann ***

Oh my dearest friend -
It has been HELLATIOUS. PLEASE NEVER ALMOST DIE EVER AGAIN.
As you read this please know that I am crying. I really thought I might lose you. I am so happy that you are back with us and will grace this earth and this life we all share for a long time to come. You are a beautiful, precious soul, and I hope you know you are not in this alone - in the boredom, in the itchiness, in the pain, in the healing... I got your back, babydoll!
Your #1 Mouskateer-

Oh, Amacker, you incredible, indelible woman you! I'm one of those people who found you on the interwebs through a shared mourning of Molly Ivins. I lurked on your LJ, in much the same way I've lurked here as your brother kept us all up to date.
I am so stupendously happy you've come up for air, and I can only send you waves and waves of heartland love. If ever you feel your spirits flagging, you've but to log on to know that we're all here.
Rock On!

Hi! I'm another internet stranger you've never met who is pulling for you. I've been checking in every day since I followed the link from Neil Gaiman's blog. You seem like such beautiful people and such a wonderful, loving family, and I am looking forward to the day Amacker herself posts here.
Welcome welcome welcome back. Oh my golly, I can't wait to visit you, once you're not afraid of your stitches popping, and chase after you around the house beggin you to sit down. I'll bring you Bushmills and lollipops and nitrous and we can watch all of carnivale in ten second clips....
I love you!!!!

I've been on a complete media blackout for the last couple months with the sole exception of checking in here every day for Richard's fab tabs on our grrrl's highside lowdown. Thank you for keeping us in the loop Richard! So today, I figured I was gonna be too busy to check on Amacker's progress when Bridget walks in and says "Hey, did you hear? Richard says she's awake and she's herself!"
"Of course she is," I said, "it's Amacker baby, she LIVES for the impossible!"
So here's some Wayne for ya Girl!

Hooray! Ron & I have been pulling for you everyday up here in Oakbooty. And the wee probable Spencer the Younger also kicks his mighty hello!
Three cheers for the woman who's stronger than guardrails and concrete!
I doubt you remember me - we met several years ago at Neil's place and did wheelies in the yard on a tiny little Honda ATC-70. Perhaps you'll want to use it as a training bike until you're steady enough to get on a big two-wheeled version again. :)
Best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery!

I just had to go over to see you just now my lovely dear Amacker. Missing you something huge. And there you were all looking great and _awfully_ sleepy.
I would like to say it was my incredible sense of restraint that kept me from slipping on a wedding band like thing, walking in and telling you all about how our twins Frodo and Fedderly were doing, but alas it was really the nurse who kept my prankster nature at bay. She said "I just got her to sleep. Wake her and I kill you. Understand?" Tim and I both nodded an obedient yes, whispered sweet nothings in your general direction and went out to toast your incredible recovery.
We love you so incredibly much, and miss you. We and the house are patiently awaiting your quick return.
love,

YAY! YAY! YAY!
I am really extremely happy to hear such great news!
Big huge hug to you, much much much love. Welcome Back Indeed!
I knew you'd pull through. Even when I heard the long list of injuries, I knew you are one hard-boiled humpty-dumpty and putting you back together would be done with a lot of self-reassembly during your extensive naptime.
Thanks for staying with us,
-- Kelly Hawk --
I just can't tell you all how wonderful it is to see Amacker smile! To hear - when I lean in - her raspy, whispery voice cracking jokes. (The tube was in for a long time!) You will each see her soon - and she is counting on your love and friendship. I feel so fortunate to be her sister. I started crying when visiting her, and she smiled at me - completely Amacker. She is still confused and bewildered - but accepting her care and nursing with humility and gratitude. She is wonderful!
Woo-hoo! Knew you'd make it, Squirrel Girl. Right after Solstice, too. Hope I can get in to see you soon! Ina says hi - she will probably come with. We tried early on, but it was too soon (though if you hadn't been in surgery we got the impression they would've let us waltz right in; we probably would've, too). You probably can't have Veuve Cliquot with your meds, can you? Oh well, we can wait a little longer for that.

I find it unlikely that you'll remember me much; we met, and hung out a few times 'way back when, via the good offices of Ron P.
I'm so glad that you'll get a chance to read, laugh and puzzle over all these responses!

oh my , this is the moment we've all been waiting, and hoping for....thank God you're back, or even part way back....this is such a relief. Loads of loving thoughts are coming your way from so many people who care about you...I hope we can help you to get better, and soon!!!
much love to you Amacker.

Amacker,
I jumped for joy when I heard you were "waking" up. The world is a better place with your energy and spirit in it!

I'm so very happy to hear the good news today. I wish you much love and look forward to sharing more music love with you very soon.

Hey Amacker... We're very happy to know you're so close to waking up and joining the great unwashed once more.
In the oh so usual way of odd coincidences w/you... my current PD's nickname (from our traffic dude) is Moose and Squirrel. Believe me when I say I think of you anytime I hear that nick.
We've had a purple candle burning for you for a few weeks now. Joani is sending well-wishes from WI.

Oh Amacker...I am so happy to hear you've awakened from that long slumber. Miss you lots and can't wait to see ya. I know it will be a longish recovery, you can count on me to be there with you.
Lots of love.

So we've been having a debate on Squish about what your first words would be. My favorite so far is "As I was saying..." although I like my entry too, "Is my bike out of the shop yet?". Get well fast, sweetie, because we need you in good shape so we can beat the snot out of you for scaring us all so badly with this accident.
Darling,
Such a relief to know that you will soon pick on Twyla's brain just as much as mine. We love you !
Yay !!!

We have been reading and hoping for you so much. We are so happy you are a strong and kick ass grrl. Please do not hesitate to ask for help, we will do what we can.
Now get your ass out of bed! kidding, we are kidding. You still in bed? *sighs*

Welcome home, Amacker.

i dont really know you, amacker-although we have many a common friends in this community.
That has not stopped me from thinking every day about how much of a difference one *YOU* person can make in the world around us.
I have prayed for your recovery, i can feel the collective 'we' are channeling a massive intention for a healthy recovery so that your thriving spirit can one again come out to play and bless us all.
I don't think i realized how much impact someone "i don't *really* know" could have on me. Your brother and family have basicly alowed us to heal our selves along with you.
WOW!
I'm yet another freak who found this via Mr. Gaiman, and even though I don't know you guys, your blog has had me very worried and I've been reading it every day. I'm very glad Amacker is finally recovering! :)
Rocket J! When I met you I was just a lowly little newby at KFJC, looking to you for guidence. I love how much fun we used to have on the air together. I recall doing team shows with you, and you challenging my speaking skills by throwing a PSA in my face to read right then and there. I know I impressed you.
The many Dead shows, the many Hog Wild Weeks, the zany SxSW in 94, and of course watching you cheer at the Power Tool Drag Races. I love how you and I have remained connected through the years.
I truly cannot imagine an event without your presence attached to it in some way.
There's so much more to see and do and to have done to you. We'll wait, and we'll celebrate when you arrive.
I love you. I love your show. I love your bro for keeping us all informed too.

Thanks, Alden for the comment-post. I cannot get enough of the news, and since we are up in Sonoma County, we are relying on all of those near the hospital to keep the good news coming our way.
Amacker, dear, i am still flying from the news -- you really don't know how happy i am to hear of your rejoining our planet in progress.

Hmmm. Maybe i will take the momentous occasion of your Waking Day to name the new chickees.
Okay: they are Reverend Sonny Boy "The Frizzly Rooster" Watson Junior and Hattie "The Buck-Buck Girl" Hudson.
There, you got me to name my chickens, right here in Richard's blog!

I am glad you are still here.

I don't want to kill a tree but I have to say this:
Welcome back to the land of living, Amacker!
Lovely Amacker,
Tonight I brought you into the healing circle we have once a month over the phone. You had 1200+ people focusing on healing for your lil' sweet self.
In the midst of the circle I saw an intense light beam of energy and I knew you were there being surrounded as this is what I visualized...
A spiritual bidet. Yup. Beam of bright energetic light with you riding it up; then hovering cross-legged yoga style with a cleansing light up your 'ars. You are my favorite firefly from the divine and absurd energetic bidet of cleansing light. May benevolent conspiracies wake you gently and shower you with delight. I love you.
Hi Amacker - I'm yet another Neil Gaiman fan who followed a link from his website to your brother's and once there couldn't just stop caring. I hope your recovery continues well and that your wonderful family have you back at home really soon.
Greetings, Amacker-
Neil Gaiman reader, here. While you were sleeping, I've been on a strange ride reading this blog, feeling sympathy for your injuries and envy for your having such a wonderful family. I used to ride a bike - it was a little Honda TwinStar - and I loved the feeling of flying without a plane. I can't ride anymore, but I can still summon up the memories and almost relive the sensations.
Hope your recovery is swift. Thanks to your brother and family for allowing me to vicariously share this segment of your journey.
Oh, yay for progress, yay for awakeness, and yay for ongoing Amacker goodness!
Elise Matthesen
(I think we first met at Neil's Guy Fawkes Day party a long time ago.)
This blog is making me cry. Amacker, we are all thinking about you, and hoping you get well so so soon. Dude! INTERNAL DECAPTITATION. That's just unreasonably insane!
Amacker-it's time to leave you a message (thanks for passing along Richard) I never have had the opportunity to spend as much time with you as i'd like, but wanted to give a shout out that I have been thinking about you, sending you juju, and checking the blog for progress daily. You are much loved lady! Can't wait to see you out and about. I'm very thankful for the wonderful news on your recovery!!!!
Much love
LoudJEN
And now "extubated" can be added to the long list of Amacker-related adjectives. I hope that you continue a speedy recovery and hug your brother for keeping us up dated on your progress.
Matthew and Fred
My dear Amacker.
I knew you would have to be well soon. We have unfinished business, don't forget: a bag of goodies you owe me on my wedding day.
I think and dream and think and pray on your healthy return every day. So wonderful to have you back.
with love and hugs,
mikey
Oh Amacker,
You always have to have the most over the top stories don't you? Well, I think you outdid yourself this time. (Internal decapitation...nice one.)
You've been in my thoughts a lot lately and I am thrilled to hear that you are making such amazing healing progress. Your strength and determination is beyond inspiring. I look forward to seeing you up and about again soon!!
Much love to you,
-Shari
Amacker! So glad you're back. So glad we get to hang out some more. You're in our thoughts and our hearts.
Love,

Amacker,
In keeping with our last electronic exchange:
Bats are in the Order Chiroptera.
So Neil's various species of bats could be collectively called Chiropterans.
Their group name is a Colony of Bats, as in:
A Thought of Barons
A Knot of Toads
A Raffle of Turkeys
A Decent of Woodpeckers
A Conspiracy of Ravens
A Company of Parrots
A Smack of Jellyfish
A Murder of Crows
A Dopping of Ducks
A Kettle of Hawks
A Congregation of Plovers
So glad to have you back!
Bat out of hell, indeed!

Amacker,
Every time I check this blog..which is several times a day...My heart swells in response to the sheer volume of love that exists for you in this world. You are loved so deeply by so many. It's a beautiful thing to experience.
You and your wonderful family continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.
Onward and upward.
Kim :-)
My heart is singing! Amacker is back! The world is a happier, sillier, more beautiful place with you in it. Thanks for sticking around.
Much love,
Vonn and Michelle
I am so happy to hear you are cruisin' back Ms. A! Your fightin' spirit rocks. We are so lucky to have your brother keeping us up to date with this blog and look forward to your editorial comments soon!
Keep on with your bad self!
xoxo

Floated over here from Neil Gaiman's blog. Then I recognized the awesome work on your website. Your brother's writing compelled me to stick around and join this online vigil for you. Your family is amazing, as I'm sure you already know. So glad you are doing well, and I wish you the best of luck in your recovery!
Morning, sunshine! And welcome home, we've been wondering when you'd show up. So, so, so motherfucking glad you're back with us. You've been getting a lot of love from all around the world, including from me, in the faraway czech republic. we've all been holding our breath, waiting for you to start breathing again. Way to walk away from the light, Amacker. You keep doing that.
Hey Amacker Darlin'...
Greetings again from NOLA. Your progress fills us with joy and hope, especially after attending two more funerals this week. You are a beacon of light and strength in this tough world ;)
And now I know we'll get you back here to visit someday and you can see what we've been doing with the house with the unicorn wallpaper (the wallpaper is long gone - I was going to send you a piece of it attached to a chunk of hundred year old plaster, but Jeffrey thought that was a bit nuts... but soon I'll be sending you a photo of it). You'll love our neighbors across the street - they have a motorcycle shop and also weld crazy things - maybe we can get you a NOLA bike just for when you visit here.
Love you, sister, and stay strong. Maybe I'll figure out how to make it over to your side of the country one of these days :)
And thank you, Richard, for keeping us all updated - it's really hard to be so far away, but you make it easier. I'd ask you to give Amacker a hug for us, but I'm sure you're already doing that (or at least whatever amounts to a hug at this point, given all the contraptions she's attached to).
- Andrea & Jeffrey in New Orleans
Hey!
Glad you're back. Or even here.
See you soon!

I was going to just write this in a snail mail card, but thought I'd share with all our friends who are pulling for Amacker: The day after the accident, Ray & I were going through some stuff in our storage unit, when we found a light toy that Amacker gave us on our wedding day. It had been in storage for ?? years, but it still lit up gleefully, entertaining kidlets Quirin & Thora. We thought, whoa, that's as clear a sign as we could ask for, that Amacker's light will keep shining. You have so much magic in you, Amacker! So glad to have you back!
love, sena & ray & quirin & thora-whom-you-shall-meet-one-day!
I found my way here through Neil Gaimen's post as well. This world, which sometimes seems so vast and so cold, is anything but and here in this virtual place I am sure, teh world holds its breath just a little waiting for news about you. Through your brother's words we learned of your plight and read about your daily struggle to return to the world from your accident. I don't know about anyone else but his words, and I have hung on them every day, have given me hope. I am so glad you found your way back to this world, to this amazing person who is your brother.
My thoughts and healing prayers to you, every day!
-Fiona , Bedano Switzerland
We've been lurking here the past few weeks, friends from your days when you were with Adobe. So happy to hear that you are waking up - we hope it won't be too long before you can enjoy a good bottle of Merlot.... luv and hugs, Trish & Chris
Hey Sweet Lady,
Good to hear you're up out of your slumber. You gave me quite a scare, and I'm glad you're back. I'll buy a ticket to Oakland for a weekend whenever you give the word. And you better give it, seeing as I'll be needing a break from the Austin heat, sooner rather than later. If you want anything from Austin, like a silly bat hat, or some tears of joy hot sauce, I'm taking requests now. I miss you hon, and I'll be seeing you soon. xoxo

ahoy Amacker!
welcome to the waking world. here's some amusement to spice your day with laughter and entertainment. while i am not in your room right now, somehow, some way, i have now entered on the fingers or tongues of others and am waving my appendages in greeting before you like an alien friend, sad that this has happened (oh dear! we love you!) and yet happy that you are still around and awake (yippee! what a frabjous day! calloo! callay!!).
the last time we talked, we discussed psychedelic music. you were so kind and you spent a bunch of time recording CD after CD for me of music you thought ought qualify. wow, what generosity! our computers could barely play music at the time. you were way up there in some sweet technology tower casting pieces of gold off into our laps. what heart and charity!
the whole world exploded in paisleys and was suffused in a haze of Indian and synthetic maelsound. it was the floodgate of disperphoria that you sent out on those spinning chakra disks, baybee! so fly hipster papa sweet lipping tra la were they that i splayed the psych distinguishment into quains! what a gas!
thanks. it was special. the Barch Tray Stipulada was especially helpful in clearing up my ignorance about music and media presentation. it was Sat, Spun, and triple sectored. my blimey was almost permunently ratified. your contribution was the meow on my prevariable cat. and what a meow!
with much love and happy tidings,
EaRhEaD (nagasiva yronwode)
thanks for your diligence.
Dear Amacker and her Dear Family who have touched so many hearts -
me too, you don't know me, & again it was Neil Gaiman's blog, where I read the first early news.
I love the love I see here for you, and that has kept me coming back, to know how you are & send some good vibes your way, and, as it happens, to learn who you are, kind of.
What an extraordinary woman! What magnificent people, all of you!
Please keep getting better fast & don't you dare lose that attitude!

Amacker;
We need you back! What are we going to do without you if Mike or Holly start to go sane!
IOU one hug -- just as soon as it won't hurt....

The Autographed Cat is glad to see your progress, and promises that the *next* time he's in San Francisco he WILL make sure you know.
I don't know why but these lyrics made me think of Amacker:
Though we are told to mourn it
We must know it was a noble sound.
As we gather here, to mourn the passing of this noble sound,
We should take the pains to remember something:
There are some of us who don’t accept
The dreams of dragons as their own, no matter how grand those dragons might say they are.
Yes,
There are some who refuse to drop the candle, even when pushed into a dark cave
And locked there behind a stone.
There is, you must recall, a kind of serious study that will give you the confidence to strike your match to the mighty wind that will illuminate yet another portion of the darkness
You must be willing to accept the fact that pain is a part of the process of revelation.
You have to be willing to take the field, and stay on the field, the way Duke stayed on the road.
Lyrics from “The Novel Sound” by Llorca, off the New Comer album
Amacker - welcome back. We're so happy and relieved to know we are not going to lose you. We hope you recover quickly and completely.
How incredibly fortunate you are - to have survived, and to have so many friends who love you.
Bruce, Heather and TJ (You'll have to meet him sometime soon)
Dearest Evil Twin, I have been wearing the bracelet you gave me from Bali since I knew what had happened. Even though the Triumph made me nervous when you rode it, I know you loved it and because of that I am sad it's gone. Lots and lots of Love from me and Captain Fabulous.

oi amacker! So bustingly stoked at your healing progress and that you are going to be ok. I won't tell you about all the terribly bad taste jokes you inspired to discourage my dad (!) from going out to buy a moterbike :) Lets just say I'm so glad your beautiful funny intelligent head, and most of the rest of you, is still with us. In awe of your strength and bullheaded healing determination, bullwinkle! Many thanks to your brother for his loving care of you and amusing/heartwarming updates for us
Hi Amacker,
It's been quite a while since I've seen you, but every so often I google you to see what's new and find more cool pictures of you on flaming bikes. Always loved your shining spirit. Who wouldn't, right?
So I just happened to catch this blog in the early days, and have been following ever since.
So glad to hear that you're breathing on your own.
BEST NEWS EVER!!
I figure that if Dwion could walk his way into my life with a bullet in his spine, then you'll be up and dancing again soon enough.
Much love and healing wishes from us,
Dwion, Diane & Graham (who's 10 now!)
I love the soundtrack idea!
Amacker, I think about you every day. Heal, baby, heal.
