No News Is Good News
At 10 tonight Amacker was funny and silly and very aware of where she is. She could touch her nose with her hand, wiggle everything... she even stuck her tongue out at someone. She's doing just great, and I'm so happy to see her being... Amacker! Even her voice is starting to sound like her again.
Tonight she said, "You know what really sucks?"
I replied, "George Bush?"
And then she said, "Yeah, George Bush made my hair really dirty."
She's able to remember between visits what's broken and the basic details of what happened to her. Everything is starting to make more sense to her.
I should note that I'm taking a quick day trip to L.A. tomorrow to speak to the unwashed masses about the virtues of networked entertainment. (I'm not real sure what that means either.)
With a 6AM flight, I won't get a chance to visit Amacker until later in the evening tomorrow when I get back. Alden will be there throughout the day, and Dad will be there tomorrow night. Amacker will be well entertained.
If anything exciting happens Alden will phone me and I'll post from my phone. If you don't see anything, well, nothing exciting happened.
It might also be worth noting that I've been thinking about my exit strategy. Fairly soon Amacker will be well enough to move to a normal hospital room, have guests, read, rehabilitate, write, etc. I think at that point I might just hand it over to her, perhaps just to avoid the feeling that I'm talking behind someone's back while they're in the room. I'll make sure there is no lapse in information, but I just wanted to say that, unlike so many blogs people read regularly, this one has a very clear goal and, at least for me, will come to an end.
For now, though, I'm very much enjoying putting the events in words, and very flattered that so many of you have said such nice things to me.
It really is, however, about Amacker.

I have her Live Journal on my list and look forward to seeing her postings. I will, of course, continue to look in here.
I am so damn pleased she is doing as well as you post.
For those of you shouting "Author, Author!" -- look in the Archives for the post "Meeting with the Big Chief Fix-ums"
The 3rd comment contains a web link with photos of Richard, his kids, and his dog.
The one where he has neat hair is not very realistic. The one with sunglasses is more accurate. The one in the tux is Right Out!
Great pics of Richard! Here's the link again so you don't have to go searching:

Now how about pics of you, Alden?
You're good, Richard. I would have been tempted to say, "George Bush? Oh, that guy who ran for president in 2000? Well, President Gore has been doing such a great job, I totally forgot about him. What? Oh, you must have been having a bad dream!"
I only have one photo of Alden, but am sure that there are plenty floating around out there that someone else could post (hint). In the meantime go to the link:http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/sarabella_1/album?.dir=7589re2
where there are the photos of Richard and now one of Alden and Richard together.
Dearest Amacker,
I am so happy you are awake, smiling, wincing, joking and sassing the nursing staff!
I think of you daily. I check the blog no less than three times a day.
You are one strong woman. I am not surprised that you are healing so well, so quickly; it's very fitting.
Thank you, Richard, for maintaining this blog.
kisses and hugs
the nurse
I love checking this blog - and I love hearing how well and how quickly Amacker is improving each day! It's been a wonderful outpouring of love, prayers, and healing energies... but I must say I'm looking forward to the time when Amacker takes over and can let us know how she's doing in her own clever & creative words. Much thanks, Richard...
Just popping in to say Hi to my cyber friend Alden and how glad I am that you're able to be there now! Thanks for posting the info about the blog--what an experience, just reading along. Love and hugs going out to all of you every day.
Linda
Thank you Richard for doing such an awesome job keeping us up to date. No news is good news indeed.
And thank you Amacker for being the superstar indestructible badass that you are... I feel indestructible just thinking about you.
YAAARRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!
Its not just about Amacker, Richard. Its about you, and Dick, and Alden - something like this affects you all, and you've done such an extraordinary thing by letting us know what is going on that it is also about you. You have been amazing through this and I am very glad you were there to be her advocate while she was not able to be one for herself.
Hooray, hooray, Amacker, I am so very glad that you are doing so much better. I've been checking the blog many many many times a day, and thinking of you even more often. You are one strong, resilient, and powerful woman! May you continue with the phenomenal healing.
And to Richard thank you again for keeping us all updated via the blog and for keeping your impressive sense of humor during a very challenging time.
Amacker- ask me sometime about the dream...
Thanks for the photos! Now i know i have indeed met Mr. Puh, briefly, although i don't know when. So hello from a much more grounded sense of who i am thankin for this wonderful blog.
And hello again, dear Amacker -- i am so glad to read of your recovery and continued progress.
cat yronwode up in forestille,
plus assorted Field Mice in the house and Norway Rats in the chicken coop whose greetings i forgot to convey last time while saying hello from the "official" pets.
Richard- you're like the jolly fat/bald guy with the handlebar-moustache who narrated the 1960's "Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer" TV-special.
Sure the special was about Rudolph, but his narration and singing contributed so much to our listening of the story.
Now I pause- and wonder what Amacker imitating (or dressing-up like) Rudolph would look like...
Hey Richard,
Please tell Amacker that those from the "Rancho de la Luna" days, are keeping her lifted up in prayer...I sure miss her..and look forward to her coming and visiting us out here in Joshua Tree...
may her Orange F_ _ _ _ing Chicken be cooked again by her masterful hands in the desert!
Sweet Dreams,
karen and mike
Heya Amacker,
After a week of not being able to check the blog due to very long hours of work I am so very happy to find that you're awake and telling the staff what to do with themselves!
You've been missed!
BTW: Just thought I'd pass on that Red has been traveling allot, but I've kept her informed and she too has been thinking of you and sending lots of prayers your way.
To Richard,
Thanks for all of your posts! I've been reading as often as I can since this all happened. Mutual friends of Amacker and I keep asking me how she is doing and it eases my mind to have something to tell them and somewhere to point them. Again, thank you!
Richard, this very blog is a gift. I, for one, appreciate that you have done this... and clearly I am not alone. It's a comfort to know she's improving every day!
Nicole
