Nurse Jane, Approximately

Nurse Jane is Amacker's daytime nurse. She's awesome, and seems to have enough medical knowledge to be a doctor (thus the "approximately," with apologies to Bob Dylan). She says that Amacker is much more comfortable today.

Jane has been lobbying to have Amacker's pain medication increased, and today the doctors ordered just that. We had all been concerned about the grimaces on Amacker's face as they worked on her, rolled her, changed her, etc., and those seem to have subsided with the new pain dosage. Some pain medication goes through her IV, and some goes in through her feeding tube.

"Won't you come and see me, Queen Jane."

Richard: Thanks so much for your efforts of love in keeping Amacker's blog up to date for all her friends. My husband and I check it daily and keep her (and your family) in our thoughts and prayers. We hope she continues to improve each day and will soon be awake & blinking her eyes, as if waking from Sleeping Beauty's sleep, saying, "WOW, what a strange dream I just had" and she's ready to go. She is truly lucky to have the love of you and her family/friends to help her now and in the recovery to come. Bless you... Lisa & Eric Weitzmann

Yes, go with the pain meds! Pain is typically WAY undertreated in the US, so you may need to lobby for more pain meds in the future. It sounds like you've got a great day nurse on your side.

And if you need supporting arguments for pain meds, there are many published studies that show people recover faster when pain is adequately controlled.

re: Nurse Jane.
not a surprise - far more competent dedicated nurses around than doctors (ER docs excepted)...

Glad Amacker is getting such good care: that was a serious crash.

take care,
jay
