Song of the Day: All You Need Is Love
When I was young, impressionable, and easily beaten to a pulp, my sisters ruled the record player with iron fists. There might have been arguments between them about what was to be played next, but my vote simply didn't count. I should probably pause here to clarify to younger readers that a record was what we played music on before 8-track, which is what came before cassette tape, which is what came before CD, which is what came before digital music which you call MP3s.
Anyway, at that time there were few things that my sisters, only about 18 months apart in age, agreed on. The Beatles, however, united them. It is because of that unique harmony that I grew up thinking that The Beatles are more important than Beethoven, Mozart, and even Elvis. I, 6 1/2 years younger than my youngest sister, figured all good in the world must begin and end with The Beatles.
It wasn't until I got to college, a time when you can be certain you know everything and certain you are correct, that I realized that The Beatles ARE the source of all good music and all harmony in the world.
Because "there's nothing you can do that can't be done," and because we're all amazed at the things Amacker has already done, today's song is:
The Beatles performing "All You Need Is Love"

Dear Bullwinkle Family,
I linked to this blog from author Neil Gaiman's website, and have been keeping track of Amacker's progress at least daily. I had never heard of Amacker before, but now I am emotionally bound to you all.
My young cousin (23 yrs. old) died in a car accident almost 2 years ago. She perished instantly, and her loss left a huge whole in many, many lives. So Amacker's accident was shockingly meaningful to me.
I am heartened by Amacker's progress, and pray for her complete healing.
I also am very touched by your blog, Richard.
I am the second-oldest sister, with a younger brother, so a lot of what you write tickles me. Amacker is very lucky to have you so close, both physically and emotionally! The ties of siblings run deep.
I wish you all continued courage and strength!
Warm regards!

Love is important, and Amacker is fortunate to
be surrounded by so much...but it is also nice
to have top-flight health care in your corner
as well.
Marinate in music then add various gods and goddesses to taste...and hopefully that's the
recipe for a resplendent recovery.
When I met your sister, she was on a pirate ship. Or waht was to become one - or should have become one but never quite did. I had just popped into camp at Burning Man and I had never met your sister before. It was my first year camping with my boyfriend, who was part of her camp. Your sister welcomed me like we'd known each other forever. She put her arm around me, flashed her Amacker smile and said, "You must be Star" - and from that moment we've been friends.
I was so saddened to hear of her accident yet so heartened to hear of her improving. I am glad you have been there by her side Richard - the strength that takes is pretty amazing in and of itself - I believe sometimes more than hers to heal, for she isn't aware of what she is really going through
You've been a source of strength for all who love and care about your sister. After coming home from my father's day a day early, I held my dad a little closer and loved on him a little more, remembering how fragile life at any age can be.
Happy Father's Day to Dick and Richard. I know there isn't much to celebrate, but you are both inspirations to us all.
