Song of the Day: Helpless
The image of Amacker this morning, very sentient, but unable to tell us what she needs, unable to advocate for herself, and unable to make the pain stop has really stuck with me. I know it was just a moment and that things are much better now. They have reintroduced her pain medication and her sedation. I know she's resting soundly again. I know that her activity was a sign that she's healing and ready to start rehabilitation soon. I'm just very sad for her to have had that moment.

Amacker's progress sounds wonderful - wow!! She is responding more than ever! Although you wish you could stop all the pain for her, it's pretty hard for us mortals. You're such a rock for being there with her these past weeks, Richard... Thinking of Amacker and you all constantly, and hoping she can be extubated and talking with you very soon. Love, **lisalisa**
How does a father express the depth of gratitude that I feel for my son, Richard, who has weathered the toughest times in the toughtest of times? I cannot. But I thank all powers and all sources for your constancy. And that is not to ignore or belittle Alden, who stayed by Amacker's side until she was again sedated and calm. Both of you are not only Amacker's angels, but mine as well.
I will be ready to come and be by your side and Amacker's, when that time arrives! and thank you both!
Dad
Don't let the blues get you.
She squeezed a hand when requested and THAT is a very good sign and one that was missing for all those weeks.
Richard,
Once again, you've taken us with you through the spectrum of emotions. It's really amazing to have this view into Amacker's recovery and trials and tribulations despite not being able to be there in person (yet). I am so appreciative of your time and effort taking care of her. And your posts are just so thoughtful and eloquent, despite your obvious fatigue and stress. Thank you so much again for this. It's a treasure and it will never be forgotten. Gotta go cry now.
Richard,
This is an example of how it's harder for the family. I can 100% guarantee you that Amacker will NEVER remember that moment, only you. It's like your kids screaming their heads off when their 6 months old because the bath is cold. You feel bad, but 5 min later the baby is like "hey, let's take a bath!" Not to compare Amacker to a 6 month old :-)
