Song of the Day: I. C. U. Baby

Well, really the song is called "I See You, Baby (Shakin' That Ass)", but when your big sister leaves the ICU after 3 1/2 weeks, you just gotta dance!

Turn it up loud!

It's true. Amacker left the ICU yesterday. All the nurses came out to wave goodbye and said they'd miss her. The nurse who admitted her discharged her, a joy they don't always have, and everyone was really happy.

Don't jump in the car, yet!
Amacker is now in the Cardiac wing, still under 24 hour care. For the next 3 or 4 days they'll continue to have Amacker under pretty close watch while they see how she adjusts to the new environment, and they've asked us to keep non-family visitors away until after Monday, but very soon she'll want to see you guys. I should clarify that she's not in the Cardiac ward because of a heart problem. It's just a wing where they have close care, but not as over-whelming as the ICU. (probably not as expensive either)

If things go well over the next few days, and they appear to be going great, then she'll move into a normal hospital room Tuesday or so.

Amacker has been talkative at times, though still a little childlike. She is funny and cute and sweet, and glad to have us around. She got a little restless last night and tried to pull out her feeding tube, so they sedated her a bit. She's drowsy this morning, but so much more alert than just a few days ago.

Anyway, today's song is something to get your rump shaking. Amacker is kicking and dancing and stretching. She's so happy to be awake, and we are so happy to dance with her!

Groove Armada, with the help of Fatboy Slim, performing "I See You, Baby (Shakin' That Ass)"

I wish we all had little cameras pointed at us when we read posts like this. Later a video could be compiled for Amacker of everyone crying with joy, dancing ridiculously in front of their computers and/or making woot!ing noises of elated relief. Indescribably glad to hear of each bit of progress. ~p~

Even in semi-consciousness, Amacker is fighting her way back to Burning Man! SHE can be the art piece this year, considering all her new metal parts ;-)

Anyway, fantastic news, better and better each day...goodbye ICU!

Let us know when we can bring her tasty yet healthful treats.

Darling woman,

As we always knew, you are an amazingly strong person. What a life force. So willful. Cannot keep you down, and would not want to. So many thoughts and prayers heading your way from all over the world. Rays of love toward you. You have reaped what you have sown, honey.

Vast gratitude to your family for diligently monitoring and directing your care. Also for taking the time to keep us well-informed. Thanks also to the hospital folk. And the amazing technology.

And to you for being, well, you. So damn strong. A fighter, always living out loud. Living. Thank you, thank you, for living. I can finally read this blog without crying. Well, almost.

When it's permissible, I think I'll be bringing you that lasagne. I'll even make it red, white and green if you give me your recipe.

A world of love, baci e abbracci,
Barbara

Life is a gift. Be sure to take it out of the box.

Best news all week! My work and my life have been such that I'm only catching up now. Again, I'm only here because of Mr. Neil (Gaiman) and have kept up because Richard writes so well and it is clear that Amacker, family and friends are special people, indeed. I've been to SF and it's a lovely city. If you're ever in Pittsburgh, PA, I'd be glad to show you around. Still sending my thoughts and energy for a speedy recovery.

Not sure about the definition of "Ward" as in "Cardiac Ward" that Richard Bullwinkle mentioned in this passage.

We looked up the word "Ward"
There were 18 definitions!
Best definitions of Ward to Amacker are:

10. ward; a person who is under the protection or of another.
16. ward; to avert, repel, or turn aside (danger, harm, an attack, an assailant, etc.)
18. ward; Archaic. to protect; guard.

Super! Amacker is protected and garded!

Amacker, today your site has 27,177 hits, and i am at least 1,177 of them. Jesus, you madwoman, you scared the life out of us. Is it tasteless to say, "Oh my god, how incredible that you survived that!"? How typical of you. Get your act together and come to Portland to see my baby, coming early October. And keep your family-- you got a good one.
love, C

Dig that post ICU glow! Now that you're getting your groove back, can we put you down for PTDR cheerleader later this summer? Even if it's on crutches, you'll still be the crowd favorite.

Love you Rocket. Let's play radio when you're ready. I'm sure you're beyond ready.

Trollin' through the blogs, feeds, etc. that I receive daily, I have to say that when I read through this one, my head nods up and down - yup, *this* is why the web/tech/etc. is meaningful. Amacker - I love you. Kahlua and Latte say hello.
