Bruce, baby Anja (3.5 mos) and I went to visit Amacker yesterday. She's doing amazingly well. She had just come back from PT, was worked over, and was sitting up to hang out... thereby causing pain. We encouraged her to lay down and chill and I think that helped. She LOVED the Trader Joe's organic strawberry lemonade we brought and had a few bites of alphabet pasta salad w/homegrown tomatoes and basil... well the alphabet was limited to just the ooo's. Yes, her sense of humor is definitely intact. It was very good to see her and we'll absolutely be back.
so how ironic that after a month plus of reading this blog i'm finally posting to say "hooray, a phone number to call!" i suck at posting & sending things (clearly) but phone i can do. i did want to make sure to sneak a thanks to richard, for all his blogging efforts to keep us long distance friends informed... it has helped me keep amacker powerfully in my heart & prayers... and very soon i hope to have her in my ear too! xo's and much love.... isa
Today Miz Amacker departs for Alaska for a FKO kayaking trip. Mr. Wzl has kindly packed her in his luggage and boards his plane shortly. Where he will join 11 other FKOs for 3 weeks of kayaking and backpacking. He doesn't even bring his wife for that special treatment.
Once there Miz Amacker will sit upon the bow of the kayak or face backwards on the pack so she can see all the moosecock, fish wheels, and killer whales too.
And all this after Mz Amacker just returned from the playa for the 4th. She sat on the dash of vanniebutt for many adventures to frog pond, black rock hot springs, and playa shenanigans. She even appropriately sneered at Randy when he came to harass us.
She thought she was missing all the fun. But she has been traveling with us everywhere.

I Had my first conversation with Amacker since the accident today. About 15 minutes worth. She apologized for not having much of a voice because....she's been talking so much lately.
...

I really don't know if she could tell that I was crying pretty much through our whole conversation. I did try to tell her that I would definitely take her talking in a hoarse voice over her not talking at all.

She mentioned that they might even let her out of the hospital as soon as she can confirm that she has someone to stay with her all the time (she already has some folks lined up for parts of the time). This is the same gal who was on deaths door one month and 5 days ago.

For someone as verbose as I tend to be, I realized that afer a few minutes I didn't have much to say. I just reveled in hearing her speak to me over the phone.

I love you Amacker. I wish I was home for a long enough period to come visit. When things settle down I will call and say hey - just to hear your voice will be totally bitchin!
